The symposium of the RWTH Aachen served the exchange of experience
between international representatives of the mining industry from coal,
ore, salt and industrial minerals, the tunnel construction, the
supporting industry, the authorities and all other experts in this area.
GHH Fahrzeuge GmbH managing director Guenther Saelhoff gave a paper to the topic:
Low profile LHDs speed up development work and increase production in Southern Africa’s Chromium and Platinum Mines
The major producers of PGM and Chrome are found in the Southern tip of Africa. Two major
complexes bear about 70 % of the known reserves of the world. Both complexes are characterised
by low heights of the reef and a rough mining environment.
Mechanised mining was introduced 15 years ago and today about 55 % of the production comes
out of mechanised stopes.
The low profile LHDs LF-4.4 and LF-7.4 are major production tools.
Both types represent today’s ultimate technology in low profile machines.
The application of low profile machines increased both safety and production.
